About

Families and Public Health

Family health is “a resource at the level of the family unit that develops from the intersection of the health of each family member, their interactions and capacities, as well as the family’s physical, social, emotional, economic, and medical resources” (Weiss-Laxer, Crandall, Okano, & Riley, 2020, p. 264)

Our Vision

A world made better through healthy families in supportive communities and societies.

Priority Statements

  1. Conduct excellent teaching and research about the family as a pathway of public health.
  2. Disseminate new ideas on how to incorporate the family as a pathway of public health in practice, research, and teaching.
  3. Collaborate across disciplines, programs, institutions, agencies and policy makers to inspire new ideas and methods.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to study and improve how public health practitioners, researchers and policy makers utilize the family as a pathway to improving population health.
