As BYU arrives upon and celebrates its 150th anniversary as a university, BYU Public Health is celebrating the 150 years of BYU and looks forward to helping students look toward how they can get involved in public health as they join a legacy of helping make the world a healthier and safer place while having fun in the best major at BYU!
Service is at the core of what makes public health so special and uplifting. Students kicked off the year as they joined Public Health as we had a service event on Monday, Sept. 8, at the BYU Garden Court in the WILK. At the event, we helped sort through donated glasses to prepare and refurbish them for people in need.
These events are an incredible opportunity to make new friends, meet new people in and outside the Public Health major, and get to see the incredible service and betterment of the world that Public Health gets to do practically — alongside having sign-ups for students who are interested in working on longer-form service activities.
If you're interested in visiting the next one, Public Health is hosting a Welcome Back event for students Wednesday, Sept. 17, 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the BYU duck pond. There will be food, giveaways and friends as everyone gets to reunite after a fun, long summer!
While on campus, if you're looking for a great way to spend a night or two this semester, look no further than the Public Health seminars. BYU Public Health Seminars are hosted as part of the Public Health Lecture Series. Each month from September through November there will be guests hosting these events such as Bill Hulterstrom, Dr. Cruvinel, and lectures from BYU MPH students on a variety of topics on the Public Health field and their experiences in the profession.
These seminars provide a great way for students to come learn more about the public health world from people in the work field. It also allows students to hear and learn from MPH students who have come before talking about how they have found their way in the public health field.
The seminars are a great place to bring a friend, to learn about public health, and to gain valuable industry experience and education through quick, hour-long lectures.
A way to stay involved with Public Health while on the road is to listen to the BYU Y Health Podcast, hosted by BYU professor Dr. Cougar Hall.
This incredible show brings on health professionals from all around the globe to talk about specific and unique aspects of the public health world. The episodes are fun, informative and insightful — and a great way to stay up to date with all things public health!
Episodes release every other week, with the first episode dropping on Tuesday, Sept. 9, and continuing throughout the entire semester.
Another way to stay up to date on everything going on with BYU Public Health as a whole is to follow the Public Health Instagram to stay informed and up to date on all things BYU Public Health–related. With fun, unique, and informative posts every week!
