Biography
Dr. Mensah is a maternal-child health epidemiologist who uses large-scale electronic health records (EHR) data to study adverse perinatal outcomes. Her postdoctoral fellowship at Kaiser Permanente focused on epidemiological studies related to preterm birth, newborn blood disorders, preeclampsia, and COVID-19 pregnancy outcomes. She collaborated with the Utah Department of Health during her doctoral training to evaluate the state's maternal and infant health home visiting program. Her dissertation examined the association between prenatal substance exposures and outcomes such as feeding difficulties, congenital heart disease, and involvement with the child welfare system. In her current research, Dr. Mensah continues to investigate perinatal epidemiology, healthcare utilization patterns during pregnancy, and the impact of prenatal substance exposure on infant health. As an independent researcher, she is dedicated to understanding the in-utero experience and its short- and long-term effects on infant outcomes. Dr. Mensah and her husband are the proud parents of three daughters.
